Oyo ex-governor Akala dies at 71

Former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala is dead.
Akala, 71 reportedly died on Wednesday in his Ogbomoso residence.
The cause of the death of the APC Chieftain is still sketchy at the moment. Insideoyo.com reported that sources close to him said he left Abuja on Tuesday for Ilorin before proceeding to Ogbomoso where he died in the early hours of Wednesday.
Akala, born on the 3rd of June 1950, at Ogbomoso in the Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State, had his elementary school at Osupa Baptist Day School, Ogbomoso before he proceeded to the Kamina Barracks Middle School, 5th Battalion of Infantry in Tamale, Ghana.
Akala started out as a Station Officer in the Nigeria Police, held many command positions and retired as the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Logistics and Supply, Oyo State Police Command.
As a politician he has contested, won and lose elections at different levels of government in the state. He served as the Deputy Governor of Oyo State from May 2003 to January 2006. Following the impeachment of then incumbent Governor (Rashidi Ladoja), he was sworn into office in January 2006 and served for 11 months before the impeachment was overturned In December 2006.
Akala was the Executive Governor of Oyo state, between May 2007 and May 2011, succeeded by Senator Abiola Ajimobi. He was also a successful businessman and the founder and chairman of TDB Global Ventures and Parrot FM radio station, both in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Makinde, Oyo Mourns
On getting the news of the death of the former governor, Seyi Makinde, incumbent governor of Oyo state directs flags to fly at half-mast to honour the deceased.
He said, “I join the good people of Oyo State to mourn the passing of a former governor of our dear state, Otunba Christopher Alao-Akala, which sad event took place today. May his soul rest in peace and may God grant his family the fortitude to bear this great loss" The Punch Newspaper reported.
