AFCON 2022: Super Eagles Soar to Victory Over the Pharaohs

 By Adegunloye Oluwatimilehin

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Pharaohs of Egypt 1-0 in their opening match of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.

The record breaking defeat would be Egypt's first defeat at the group stage in 18 years.

A 30th minute strike from the Leicester City Forward, Kelechi Ihenacho gave the Super Eagles a comfortable victory of the most decorated country at the tournament.

There were couple of chances missed by Kelechi Ihenacho, and Awoniyi Taiwo the Union Berlin Forward, who played the number 9 position for the Eagles before being replaced by Sadiq Umar.

CSKA Moscow Forward, Chidera Ejuke came close to doubling the lead for the eagles in the dying hours of the game, but the ball was parried of by the Egyptian goalie.

Nigeria currently tops the Group D table, after a goalless match between Sudan and Guinea-Bissau both countries sharing a point, while Egpt is the last on the group table.

Super Eagles of Nigeria would throw a cockfight with Sudan’s Falcons of Jediane, on Saturday, 15th of January.

The match would determine if Nigeria would still be the toppers of the Group D as Egypt take on Guinea Bissau.
