There was pandemonium in Ojodu area of Lagos on Tuesday when a delivery truck ran into students of Babs Fafunwa Millennium Senior School killing scores of them.

As many as seventeen were said to have been killed with just one survivor but there was no confirmation of the actual number of victims.

The truck allegedly chased by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps on the Ogba-Ojodu Berger Road rammed into these students waiting by the roadside to either cross the road or get a bus having closed from school for the day.

Victims of the accident who were able to survive but with injuries were transported to close by hospitals for treatment by minibuses (Korope) drivers

According to a teacher of the school, and some students lamenting the incident, it is not the first time they would chase vehicles in that manner disregarding the safety of people. He said that they would go and warn the FRSC to stop chasing any vehicle along the school road once they're unable to apprehend them at their checkpoint.

Angry mob vandalise trucks

Minutes after the tragic incident, angry students and persons in the environs of the school vented their ire on trucks and policemen driving through that road.

The truck that allegedly crushed the students was apprehended at the front of Excellent Hotel Aguda and set ablaze with all the goods it was conveying.

The driver who was arrested by Police officers of the Area G Police Station, Ogba was saved from the anger of the people.

About seven other trucks along the Ogba- Ojodu Berger route got their windshields doors and other parts destroyed in the process.

The already angry mob were further agitated by policemen firing gunshots and tear gas canisters to disperse them making them retaliate by throwing stones, bottles and other elements.

Vehicles plying the route now have to take a detour and pedestrians have to raise their hands before they could walk through the road.

Parents and guardians scamper about in search of their children/wards

At about 4 pm, less traffic was seen in the school as many students have taken to their heels when the fiasco escalated. It was just some parents who were yet to find their child's that were present in the school asking around and making calls to ensure the safety of their children as the exact numbers and identities of victims of the incident is still unknown.

While some parents got phone calls from home confirming the return and safety of their children some were still in the dark making them more agitated.

A woman who was yet to see her child or ascertain her safety was seen agitating on the road to the school.
