The Student Representative Council has encouraged students to get their Permanent Voters Card by explaining the processes involved.
In a WhatsApp message signed by the SRC President, Adesanya Adedapo, the process of registration and collection which has the online physical phase was duly explained and students were advised to do it as soon as possible.
There is the online and physical phase of PVC registration. For the online, visit cvr.inec.org and fill in the necessary information. Then pick an area close to your respective houses to do the final registration. He stated.
Adedapo said It's very important that every member of the school that are above 18 years of age do this and having PVC gives opportunities and power to decide how things will go come 2023."We are one of the major institutions of the society and If we cannot take decisions that affect us now, what do we then do when we grow old."
He added that the SRC has done its best by raising awareness on how to get the PVC. "The process is not rigorous, you just need to calm down, go to the website and then put in all the information you want to put. Find a day that works for you to get this registration done. So, it about sacrifice." Adedapo said.
In our conversation with students of the institute, those who have gotten their PVC relates how they did it and those who haven’t expressed their reservation and readiness to get it.
Tolulope Olatunji, a PGD student asked the youth to maximise and utilise this opportunity in fighting for their right against the preexisting problems in this country.
"It was strenuous because it took a lot of time to get the plastic one, but I think the online process now is a bit easy than the previous process" Toluope said as he urge students to get their PVC registration done has the process now is easier than the usual.
Adegunloye Timileyin who just realized the easier way of possessing PVC said, it is important for NIJ students to have a permanent voters card to change the government.
"I have not gotten my voters card yet, reason been that I have been occupied with different kind of schedule and workload but just learnt that there is an online way of getting one and I’m looking forward to it so I can participate in the coming election."
Another PGD student, Alao Abiodun who also got his PVC during the 2015 election said, words and social media noise do not win elections but when you have your PVC which is your instrument to exercise your franchise that is what you use to win an election.
Abiodun added that in Nigeria, there is no way you want to get something important that you won't go through challenges. "The challenges I faced when I went to get my PVC then was the long queue at the centre, beyond that, I also faced some technical issues." He said
