The Information Communication Technology (ICT) hub of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, has taken a new look.

This is following complaints from students of the institute over the discomfort that was experienced before the renovation.

In response to these complaints, Nigeria’s leading deep-water energy company, The Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) and Exxon Mobil donated state-of-the-art ICT equipment to improve the hub.

The computer laboratory has now been relocated to a wider environment and it is now refurbished.

Speaking with NIJ Voice, a National Diploma 1 student, who gave her name as only Katherine expressed satisfaction at the development because it has made her classwork and assignment easier.

"The former laboratory was not all that spacious as we did our assignments in groups. But this new laboratory is better, although some computers are malfunctioning, the technician is around to fix it.

"It is better to assimilate here because the environment is conducive".

The students also appreciated Shell Nigeria and Exxon Mobil for the donations as they no longer have to go outside to be computer literates.

On her part, the ICT Hub facilitator, Ms Josephine Okocha expressed her satisfaction with the facelift that the centre will do as it will facilitate a better learning environment.

"It is a thing of joy. The new look is really accommodating and the students will be able to work well as it will aid their learning of Basic Computer Application of Mass Media."
